In this episode we talk about the many VR and AR product introductions this fall, including Playstation VR, Daydream, Microsoft VR, Oculus products and more. We also talk about the huge Reality, Virtually Hackathon at the MIT Media Lab last month where I was a co-organizer and lead mentor and Jarrett was a hacker participant.
Episode 39 – Reality, Virtually, Hackathon! call for participation
In this episode we talk about the huge upcoming VR/AR hackathon called “Reality, Virtually” at the MIT Media Lab, October 7-10, 2016, open for registration for anyone who wants to participate. Discussion of the hackathon starts about 15 minutes in. But first we chat about a few games (both VR and non-VR), upcoming conferences, devices and lots of other things VR and AR.
Back in June I was interviewed as a guest on a morning talk show called “Chicks Dishing” at a local radio station, WLTN-FM, in the White Mountains region of Littleton, New Hampshire. In this episode I replay the show, about a half-hour. We were invited on air to promote a new local meetup group, the Littleton Tech Meetup, but we spent considerable time talking about virtual reality. It was fun framing the conversation for a general audience including people who probably have never seen or even heard of virtual reality and augmented reality.
This episode is a different format. Over the July 4th weekend, my extended family gathered at my sister’s house on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, for vacation. There were nearly 20 of us under one roof for a weekend of fun in the sun, beach, food, fireworks, parades, and of course, my HTC Vive. I took this opportunity to speak with many of them before and after their trying VR for the first time. And I assembled the recordings here for this podcast.
In this episode we talk about the Vive and Rift games we’re playing, emotional responses to my re-creation of my childhood living room. And of course, Pokemon Go. We also talk about some of the origins of HTV Vive and consumer VR, the upcoming Google Daydream platform, and other devices like Meta 2 AR and the Enflux VR body suit. And other things VR and AR.
In this episode we discuss the reactions of several folks trying VR for the first time. I recorded short interviews at a recent local tech meetup where I demo’d the HTC Vive. Along the way we also talk about other things VR and AR.
Episode 34, June 12, 2016 (re-post with corrected audio link).
In this episode we give a critical review of our hands-on demo of the Microsoft HoloLens last week in Boston. And then we read about how to fit a Vive headset to maximize optical quality and comfort. Along the way we also talk about other things VR and AR.
